Short answerOn Free, Pro and Max, publish a public link. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner must turn on external sharing before “Anyone with the link” works; otherwise invite people by email, which needs a Claude account. If neither is possible, publish a copy somewhere outside viewers can reach.
Anthropic’s own pages are the authority here: start with Publish and share artifacts for chat artifacts and Share session output as artifacts for Claude Code. This guide summarizes them.
Step 1: Which kind of artifact is it?
A chat artifact is made in a conversation on claude.ai or in the Claude apps. A Claude Code artifact is a page that Claude Code publishes from a session, at a claude.ai/code/artifact/… address. Their sharing rules differ.
Step 2: Check what your plan allows
| How | Who can open it | |
|---|---|---|
| Chat artifact, Free, Pro or Max[1] | Publish creates a public link | Anyone with the link can view and use it without a Claude account |
| Chat artifact, Team or Enterprise[1] | Share & copy link; choose “Anyone with the link” or invite people by email | “Anyone with the link” needs an Owner to enable external sharing. Email invitees need a Claude account. |
| Claude Code artifact, Pro or Max[2] | Share control in the page header: public link | Anyone can open it without signing in to claude.ai |
| Claude Code artifact, Team or Enterprise[2] | Share control: public link | Off until an Owner turns on external sharing in Organization settings > Artifacts |
Step 3: On Team or Enterprise, ask an Owner
- An Owner opens Organization settings → Artifacts.
- They turn on External sharing. For chat artifacts, an Owner can also allow a single artifact instead.
- Back in the artifact, choose the share option for anyone with the link and copy it.
If an Owner later turns external sharing off, existing public links stop working until it’s turned back on.
Step 4: Or invite people by email
For chat artifacts on Team and Enterprise, you can invite specific outside people when Email invitations outside your organization is on. That setting is on by default on Team and off on Enterprise. Each artifact can have up to 50 outside invitations, pending invitations expire after 30 days, and every invitee needs a Claude account.
What outside viewers see
- On a public Claude Code artifact, a viewer outside your organization sees the label “Content is user-generated and unverified.” instead of your name.
- Public-link viewers of a Claude Code artifact don’t see comments and can’t add them.
- Sections that call MCP connectors stay empty for viewers outside your organization.
When none of this works
If your plan or your Owner doesn’t allow outside sharing, publish a copy of the page somewhere your viewer can reach. Ask Claude Code to read the artifact’s URL, which saves its full source to a local file, and then publish that file. With Overto, the page lives in your workspace: invite the person to comment, or turn on a public link for a document or website so anyone can read the current version. Comments, source and older versions stay private.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t someone outside my organization open my Claude artifact?
On Team and Enterprise plans artifacts stay inside the organization by default, and shared artifacts generally need a Claude account. A link for anyone works only after an Owner enables external sharing.
Can I invite a specific person from outside my organization?
For chat artifacts on Team and Enterprise, yes, if the “Email invitations outside your organization” setting is on: it is on by default on Team plans and off on Enterprise. You can invite up to 50 outside people per artifact, and they need a Claude account.
Can people with a public link comment on a Claude Code artifact?
No. People whose only access is the public link don’t see the comments and can’t add any. You and the artifact’s editors can still read and reply to existing threads.
Do live connector sections work for outside viewers?
No. Connector calls don’t run for a viewer who opens the public link without signing in to claude.ai, or from outside your organization. They see the page without its live sections.
What if my Owner won’t enable external sharing?
Publish a copy somewhere outside viewers can reach. With Overto, invite them to your workspace to comment (Free allows up to 3 members), or turn on a public link for a document or website.
