Projects

Projects are where work lives in Overto. Every publication belongs to a project, and the project decides who can read it, comment on it and publish to it. Your team knows where to find the launch plan, the prototype and the research, and your agent knows where to publish.

Create a project

Create a project in your workspace, or ask your agent to call overto_project_create. A project has a name and a short reference: 2 to 63 lowercase letters, numbers or hyphens, starting with a letter. The same reference works in the browser and in agent tool calls, and it becomes part of every link in the project:

https://<your-company>/<project>/<publication>/

Company or restricted

  • Company. Everyone signed in to your company can read the project. This is the default for new projects.
  • Restricted. Only people and teams you grant can open it.

Publishing or changing work always needs an explicit grant, even in a company-wide project.

Roles

Grant a role to a person or to a team:

Role Can
Reader Open the project’s publications
Commenter Read and take part in discussions
Publisher Publish new work and new versions
Maintainer Manage the project, its access and its discussions

The project owner stays a maintainer. Downloading editable source and exporting the project are separate permissions, so you can share a page without sharing its source.

Teams are created by company administrators. A team grant follows the team’s current membership, so people gain and lose access as they join and leave the team.

Collections

A collection is an ordered list of links to projects and publications, such as a reading list for a launch. A collection holds up to 200 links. It never grants access: each person still sees only what their own permissions allow.

Forks

A fork copies chosen publications into a new project: from 1 to 20 publications, each at the version you pick. It copies files, not history, comments or grants.

Find work

Search covers titles and metadata, file paths, Markdown and plain text, the visible text of HTML pages and the text of PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel files, filtered by your current permissions. It does not search comments or read text inside images. Agents use the same search with overto_search, so a different agent can find the work months later.
